We are saddened by the recent homegoing of our dear friend and adopted "grandma" of our kids. Mary McDermott passed into the presence of the Lord. Also, her husband, Allen is in critical condition in a hospital in Texas after they suffered a car accident. The family has set up a blog where you can find information in order to pray more effectively for them. Thank you and please pray.

We thank the Lord for the opportunity that Melissa had to go to Camp Grace this past week during her Spring Break! She was able to teach, minister in various way to children and also help work on the camp ground with her fellow team members. Here are some pictures of her ministries. Also, we are including a picture of our kids Bible club/English class that we have on Saturdays. This coming Saturday is our last club before we go on our furlough to the US, so pray for these kids that they would keep going on for the Lord! Thanks!

Christmas time in Zacatecas

Here are several pictures of Christmas events. Most of them have to do with eating! The two pictures of young people eating hamburgers are our two English classes celebrating Christmas with us at our home on the last day of class for 2010. The picture at the bottom is all five of us Bairds eating Christmas dinner at home. In the second picture, we are with Estela and her family with whom we have a Bible study each week. Finally, at the top is Chuyito, a cute little boy who played his guitar along with Larry at Estela's house! There will be more pictures to come in the near future and hope you enjoy these!

Tragedy, triumph and transitions

We have been busy this summer with VBS prep and Bible studies. We just found out that a friend of ours in Delicias was murdered yesterday. Martin was 39 years old and a few years ago, we studied the Bible with him and his wife, Claudia. He seemed to understand some spiritual things, but we aren't sure if he professed Christ. Today, we had a great Bible study with Alejandra who is Margarita's daughter. She is coming along in her spiritual understanding and pray for her salvation. Melissa is now ready to attend Clearwater Christian College and we are busy making plans for the big trip to Florida in August. Our nest is getting smaller!

BMW Mexico Field Conference

Here are some pictures of our field conference that we just had recently. It was at a hotel just about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, if you know where that is! We had a great time and also spent several days with coworkers in Guadalajara and with the national believers there. It was a good time of fellowship and blessing. The top picture shows that Melissa and Isaac really do love each other! Isaac has grown this past year too!

We took our two small friends Max and Mia (bottom picture) to the Bufa on Mexican Independence Day. Agustin and Ana took some time off for themselves while we saw the sights with their kids and we had a great time. The top picture is taken from the Bufa (about 8,770 ft above sea level) and over looks the tourist sights nearby. Lily is the one with the umbrella because the sun was hot that day! Today we have them (Ana, Max and Mia) at our home for Bible study, English class and piano class.

We are thankful for our neighbors and friends of our "Privada" or private suburb called "Las Quintas." The top picture is of our neighbors, Willie and Arcelia, followed by our neighbors, Carlos and Lorena, and the bottom picture is of our neighbors Dr. Mario and Dr. Martha Esparza and another neighbor lady. The Esparza's son, Daniel, is one of Isaac's friends. We praise the Lord for our friends and neighbors and the work God is doing in their lives! We appreciate them too!

Aaron came home for about a week and it was a blessing to have him with us! We accomplished a lot too as he spent some time with his dentist and also the eye doctor! Life and ministry here in Zacatecas keep moving along and God is working in our family and friends as we build relationships. Here are a couple of pictures of our family and kids.

Mexico City Trip

Larry went to Mexico City recently to help a group from one of our supporting churches. They came to install a suspended ceiling and do some other jobs in one of the BMW churches being planted nearby where Fernando and Cindy Napoles minister. The food, fellowship and work was a blessing. It is amazing to see all the people who live in this huge city. There is much need, so pray for more workers! Even better, come and help us! God bless and enjoy the pictures! One of them is at the pyramid of the sun near Mexico City and the others are on the job site. See the beautiful ceiling?!

Howdy! We are still here! Time flies so fast and it has been a long time since we updated this blog. Last Friday night we returned from our annual field conference and it was a blessing to see our coworkers from Mexico and directors from the US. We had a great Bible study on prayer during conference and we do appreciate your prayers too! Pray for Aaron who is in his last month of this semester at Clearwater that God would enable him to finish well. He is doing a great job, but this semester has been a learning experience for all of us. We miss him! God bless and have a great day!

Life in Zacatecas

Time flies! We took Aaron to college last month (August) and September seems to have slipped by so quickly! It has been interesting getting used to having four of us, rather than five and on the way back from taking Aaron to Florida, we still asked for room for five people at restaurants! Pray for him and us as we are still making the transition, but we are thankful that he is studying in a Christian College. Here are some pictures of the trip.

We have been busy these days with some Bible studies and also sharing the Gospel with people here. PTL that there are many opportunities of ministry! We are thrilled that our son Aaron has finished his high school studies. PTL that God gave us the opportunity to home school him here in Mexico for most of his schooling. Melissa and Isaac are both now in high school (Isaac started in January) and we trust the Lord to help them as well. Pray for Aaron as he anticipates attending a Christian College in Florida. Howdy! We have been busy, but doing fine! We will keep updating this blog each month, but we are also now on facebook. Look us up and sign up if you can! Here are some pictures from near where we live and where we seek out people to study God's Word. Notice how steep the hills are and some streets require that we turn the A/C when we take the car. We walk most of the time. Also, the blue building is the University of Zacatecas Academy of Music where Melissa and Isaac take lessons. God bless!

Greetings from Zacatecas, Mexico! The weather has been great recently and we thank the Lord that our house in Chihuahua finally sold! Now we are on the lookout for one here in central Mexico, so pray to that end! God is so good to us and we are enjoying our life and ministry here in such a wonderful place. Monarch Butterfly sanctuary

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Michoacan last month. We had the great privilege to see millions of butterflies that live in Mexico during the winter. During this month (March) they start heading back north to the US and Canada. We really enjoyed the few hours we spent going there and seeing the beauty of God's creation. Central Mexico is beautiful! On another more spiritual note, PTL with us that Lupe has trusted Christ!

Howdy! Here are some pictures of our family visiting coworkers here in central Mexico! The first one is a group of young people at a valentine's meeting. The second is some friends who serve the Lord in Colima, Mexico and we had a great time with them. The last picture is near Mexico City where we climbed a 200 foot piramid. We had the opportunity to minister with fellow BMW missionaries and get to know them better in both Guadalajara and Mexico City. We will post more pictures later. God bless!

Here is a picture of Lily's mother (Maria) and oldest sister (Hermila) which was taken in Chihuahua City recently! We had the joy of traveling with Lily's mother and had a great time together! We are thankful here in Guadalupe, Zacatecas for so many blessings received! God has provided us with ministry opportunities as well as good neighbors and friends for our kids. We are here and PTL that we got our things here safe and sound (mostly). Here are a few pics of the move and also of Isaac and his new friends. We are thankful that the Lord is providing us with a nice neighborhood, friendly neighbors and also with ministry to people! We have been able to share Christ with several so far and pray that the Lord continues to give us opportunities to serve Him. Notice how we unloaded the piano! New House in Zacatecas!

PTL! We have rented a house in Guadalupe, Zacatecas which is a sister city to Zacatecas City, the state capital. Here is a picture of our house and we are excited because people there have been friendly to us and we have been able to make some good contacts! The kids have already made some friends there. Our new house will be empty for a couple of weeks while we finish packing in Delicias and move our things south. Pray for the sale of our house in Delicias, that it would take place before we leave if possible. God bless!

We are back in Delicias! PTL! It has been raining and the weather is fairly decent for being summer! There are no pictures this time, but we are quite busy with plans for this month. It is a blessing to be back to Mexico and we had quite the trip back with several interesting "bumps" in the road. Our house had a water leak when we arrived and today the meter reader told us that our electric meter had been going backward! They don`t like that to happen! We have seen quite a few people in a short period of time and thank the Lord with us that we are back home! We are soon headed back to Mexico! Lord willing, this weekend we travel toward Colorado and then on to El Paso, Texas and then Chihuahua next week! Our 10 1/2 month furlough has been great and we thank God for His many blessings! We want to thank all of you for your encouragement and also to Calvary Bible College for allowing to minister with them during this past school year. We are busy with meetings, ministry at Calvary and a number of other activities! It has been great to be involved in various churches as well as in the lives of young people! This picture are some of the guys at the church we attend when we are not on the road. Blue River Bible Church has been a blessing to our family this year and our son Aaron is the farthest to the right. They all decided to wear ties for Easter Sunday! We trust each one of you had a great Christmas and New Year. We had a great time as a family as we went to Branson, MO for Christmas and saw some of the sights and rode some of the rides! It was an exciting time! Now we are busy with classes again at Calvary and trust the Lord to give us a good semester and good ministry in churches as we travel about every other weekend. Thankfulness at Thanksgiving

On the day before thanksgiving, we want to send our greetings and love. Our hearts are full of thanksfulness to God who has blessed us with many spiritual and physical blessings. Neither pictures nor words can completely express our gratitude because we have seen God's hand working in our lives. There has been safety in travel, provision of daily needs, opportunity to minister on a regular basis, fellowship with other believers, time in God's Word as a family, rest and relaxation, among other blessings. There are concerns, of course, but these cannot take away from our focus on thankfulness because we even give thanks for the seemingly negative things in life because they either teach us important lessons or enable us to appreciate the moments of life that God has given us now and the future eternity that we will spend with Him. Wow! Time flies! On Aug 11 of this month, we officially left Mexico in order to take our furlough. Our furlough will be spent partially helping out as missionaries in residence at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO. Larry will be teaching some there and we will be visiting churches on weekends. We arrived here this past week and it has been exciting to get reacquainted with the people here at Calvary and also get ready for the next few months. It was hard to leave Chihuahua, but we thank the Lord for His provision of workers for His harvest there. Zacatecas is now on our heart and minds and we appreciate your prayers and notes. We will try to update this blog more and let us know any suggestions!

Bairds in Chihuahua (at camp)

We were at youth camp for our Bible Churches here in Chihuahua from July 16 through 23. It had been quite a few years since we had been to camp and we thank the Lord for His working in our national leadership to make this camp available. Larry and Lily served the camp as "camp pastor" and wife and our duties were to be a general help spiritually to the campers and staff members. Larry did not preach, but was able to give a devotional to the counselors each morning. This was a special time to be with young Mexican leaders who desire to serve the Lord and be faithful to Him. Aaron, Melissa and Isaac all enjoyed being campers and they kept their counselors busy!

This week at camp was one of the last events of our ministry here in Chihuahua. It has been a good 16 years of ministry, but we want to allow the national pastors and other leaders the freedom to continue this and other ministries as the Lord leads. It is hard to say goodbye and by the middle of August, we will be headed for the States and our year of furlough. Next year this tiime, we will be headed for Zacatecas! Here are some pictures of downtown Zacatecas City. The top picture is very close to the center of the city, but you can see hills nearby in the background. The next picture below it is some type of government building. The following picture is also downtown, but shows more people and their daily activities. The bottom picture is the baptist church which we visited downtown and discussed ministry needs with the missionary there. Downtown is quite unique and there is much to see and good food too! By the way, pray for us here in Chihuahua this week as we go help in youth camp. We will serve as general helpers, give pastoral help and also help the new camp director with other needs that may arise. All of our family is going, so pray for safety tomorrow as we travel and then we return next Sunday. Thanks!

More Pics of Zacatecas

Here on the left is a view of downtown Zacatecas City from a famous hill called "la Bufa." We don't know why it is called this yet, but we will find out! You will see in this picture and others that this city is quite hilly and the Bufa borders one side, but is close to the downtown area. On the right, is a large statute of Pancho Villa (Viva Chihuahua!) who is commemorated here for his victories in this area. Behind him is the actual rocky part of the Bufa and nearby are shops, museum and church.

Here is a nighttime picture of the Bufa from the city. It is really a beautiful sight either at night or day! We have more pictures to send, but perhaps this will get you started! We love comments and we love Zacatecas too!

Survey Trip to Central Mexico

This is a new beginning for the Baird family! Recently, we took a trip with Kevin and Crystal Elworth to central Mexico in order to find a new location of service. Our family has spent almost 16 years in Chihuahua and we are now changing our church planting ministry to a new location! This new location is . . . Zacatecas City, Zacatecas, Mexico! God has opened the door to this new location and we thank Him for His working in our lives. It will be hard to leave Chihuahua, but the need is greater in central Mexico and we trust Him to continue to work in opening the doors for this new church planting ministry. Zacatecas State is just about in the middle of Mexico and it is surrounded by several other states. There will be more information about this new ministry, but for now, we wanted to share what God has been doing through this recent survey trip. Lord willing, we leave for furlough this coming August and will return back to Chihuahua to pack and move next summer of 2007.
